Hint: If you don’t know something about functioning aircraft, your home-made plane isn’t going to fly on wishes and pixie dust. Aside from flying set missions, you can also slap some engines on a craft of your very own making to see where it goes once you crank up the throttle. SimplePlanes is a building / flying game with some very impressive sandbox options. The human race is probably better off overall if there aren’t too many C-grade engineers building aircraft. Maybe that’s how things should be, though. SimplePlanes by Jundroo isn’t quite as simple as its name suggests. Discuss further in the Eucl3D 3D Prints forum over at pieces to fit together doesn't always go as planned. It proves that 3D design software that anyone can use is possible, software designers just have to stop thinking of it as a CAD program, and start thinking of it as a game. However the fact that a simple video game like SimplePlanes can be used to create amazing, 3D creations using only a game controller is pretty amazing. Unfortunately being able to design those things is beyond most people. Being able to 3D print replacement parts for appliances or custom holders or latches built especially for your doors would be a great use for a home 3D printer. The real disruptive aspect of 3D printing is being able to use it in your home to build things specific to your home. One of the reasons that 3D printing hasn’t become more common in the average home isn’t the cost or the relatively imperfect printed parts from average FDM machines, it’s the difficulty in creating custom 3D printable models. Here is a video showing the process of ordering 3D prints in-game: Granted, you’re limited in how exact measurements and fine details can be, and if you want it 3D printed you can only get it as full-color sandstone, but it is still pretty great that you can have almost anything that you design 3D printed for you. While it may take a while to build your perfect 3D printable model, it can be done, and without knowing a lot about 3D modelling. Even the easier to use, web-based 3D design software has a steeper learning curve than SimplePlanes does. This is, obviously, not the intended use of the video game or the 3D printing services, but it could certainly be used in this way. There really are not a lot of limits placed on users in regards to what they can create using the plane builder, so almost anything is possible. The game mechanics of SimplePlanes, when paired with 3D printing services, make the video game some remarkably easy to use 3D design software. Ī more conventional design from SimplePlanes In fact, just about anything can be designed using the plane builder, including Astrometric Droids, an Eagle with flapping wings and even giant musical instruments. While that may not sound especially remarkable, the plane building aspect of the game is actually quite a powerful bit of software, and players quickly learned that it can be used to make far more than just airplanes. Players are given tools to build their own airplanes and then they can fly them in a series of training exercises and challenges. The game SimplePlanes from game developer Jundroo is a pretty simple and unassuming game. So it makes perfect sense that a video game that allows players to design and build their own airplanes could be used as a 3D modelling program. All of that was possible because the software itself was robust enough to be manipulated by players and made to look like something else. PC gamers have a long history of manipulating and modifying the code from their favorite games and creating everything from alternate clothing to entire new levels to entire new games. One of the ways that this was accomplished is the game developers granting users what are essentially shortcuts to programming their own game effects. In Fallout 4 players are given tools to build entire settlements and machines that can be combined in limitless ways, resulting in unbelievably complex creations. In Minecraft, players have built everything from recreations of real world locations to other video games tribute, and once an enterprising player even created a rudimentary 3D printer. There are plenty of examples throughout gaming. Often times video games are so sophisticated that even the original creators are surprised at some of the things that players have managed to do with them. Modern video games are actually incredibly sophisticated computer programs that create unbelievably immersive experiences, including realistic physics, interactive environments and they even simulate the thinking and behavior of people. While we as players experience things like alien invasions, cheesy melodramatic dialogue and frustrating missions to rescue princesses, there is a lot more going on that we rarely think about. It is really easy to forget how sophisticated modern video games actually are. Wade decision protecting abortion rights. While Republicans were once seen as having a good chance of gaining control of both chambers of Congress in November, benefitting from soaring inflation, high gas prices and Biden’s slumping approval ratings, Republicans have found themselves on defense since the Supreme Court overturned the landmark Roe v. Republicans have targeted Fetterman for backing proposals to release more geriatric or rehabilitated inmates from prisons and provide flexibility in certain mandatory-sentencing laws. “Fetterman may dress like a teenager getting high in his parents’ basement, but he’s a raging lunatic hell-bent on springing hardened criminals out of jail in the middle of the worst crime wave in Pennsylvania history,” Trump said. In particular, the former president went after Fetterman’s irreverent dressing habits - shorts and hoodies - saying that “I don’t like those dirty sweat suits, they’re disgusting.” Oz, Trump said, “is going to work and fight for Pennsylvania,” while he attacked Fetterman and the Democratic nominee for governor, Josh Shapiro, as extreme while distorting their positions on issues like crime and abortion. Mastriano, he noted, had fought with him from the beginning to try to help Trump overturn the 2020 election and stay in power, saying Mastriano fought “like very few people fought.” While he isn’t writing his party’s chances off just yet, he said, “It’s a much more difficult endeavor than a candidate who had won several difficult political races before.” “Republicans have now nominated a number of candidates who’ve never run for office before for very high-profile Senate races,” said veteran Republican pollster Whit Ayres. In addition to Oz, among the others are author JD Vance in Ohio, venture capitalist Blake Masters in Arizona and former football star Herschel Walker in Georgia. That’s putting Senate control - once assumed to be a lock for Republicans - on the line. Trump’s endorsed picks won many Republican primaries this summer, but many of the candidates he backed were inexperienced and polarizing figures now struggling in their November races. Investigators recovered thousands of documents in the search, including more than 100 with classified and top secret markings. But we will not be silenced, right?” Trump said. “They’re trying to silence me and more importantly they’re trying to silence you. Small town in southern Mexico hosts thousands of migrants While the rally was organized to bolster Oz and Doug Mastriano, the GOP’s hard-line nominee for governor of Pennsylvania, it was Trump’s first rally since the FBI’s search of his Mar-a-Lago club, and Trump spent part of the evening railing against it. Mitko’s thinking underscores the political challenges facing Trump and the rest of the Republican Party as the former president shifts to general election mode with a rally Saturday night in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, the first of the fall campaign. Oz hasn’t showed me one thing to get me to vote for him,” he said. John Fetterman, a name he’s been familiar with since Fetterman’s days as mayor of nearby Braddock. Instead, Mitko plans to vote for Oz’s Democratic rival, Lt. Mitko doesn’t feel like he knows the celebrity heart surgeon, who only narrowly won his May primary with Trump’s backing. But the Republican from Beaver County in western Pennsylvania says he has no plans to back his party’s nominee for Senate, Dr. (AP) - Larry Mitko voted for Donald Trump in 2016. With three sons, we have been big fans of the Klipped Kippahs. When you wear your kippah, you expect it to stay in place. Everything you do matters, and that feels pretty great. You also become able to permanently rid areas of the undead, which is really satisfying as well – and you’ll need the unique resources dropped by them when they’re dealt with for good. You can always see how far you’ve traveled, how many animals you’ve hunted, how many items you’ve deposited in your chest, and more – and all of these are recorded as medals of different tiers, which turns even the most mundane into its own little progress bar. On top of that, the game tracks pretty much everything. Oh and parts of the tree are hidden, and only reveal themselves once you meet certain criteria. In addition, you’ve got access to a pretty sizable research tree with things that will take you dozens of hours to unlock. Want to get wildlife fighting by your side? What about making your turrets stronger? Or maybe you just want more luck when searching for resources. Not only are you unlocking new things as you level up, you’re also picking new perks each time. Part of what makes Dysmantle great is the constant sense of progression. As you get better tools, you can destroy increasingly harder-to-destroy items for higher quality and rarer resources. You then use these parts to make your own things, either by inventing new things, or upgrading the stuff you already have. Destroy a toilet and get some porcelaine. Destroy a bed and it will provide wood and linen. So how does it work? Destroy a cupboard and it turns into a few pieces of wood. Officially, 99% of the objects in the world can be destroyed by the end. Once you reach the later stages of the game, not even walls will stand in your way. You can destroy more things, and what was once an obstacle is suddenly merely a brief distraction. As you level up and gather more resources, however, you get access to an increasing number of tools, trinkets, equipment, and features. You have a small inventory, low strength, and you’re only able to destroy a handful of things. And that’s very much the name of the game (see what I did there?).ĭysmantle starts off quite slow. I still have things to find, secrets to uncover, challenges to overcome, thousands of undead to kill, and probably thousands of items yet to dismantle. After playing for just over 40 hours, I still haven’t fully explored every part of it. Honestly, I’d maybe even qualify it as huge. Exploration with a capital EĪs I said, the world of Dysmantle is quite large. You have to piece a lot of it together yourself, but that’s part of the fun. There are a ton of amazing details all over the sizable map telling you the story of the people who once were – and what might have happened to them. Even if the world is the literal opposite of alive, it feels very (previously) lived in. The game is pretty light on actual story, but it’s got environmental storytelling in spades. Thankfully, you’ve got access to the tools required to survive. Oh and turrets that will mow you down in seconds. Instead, you’ll worry about surviving a world filled to the brim with things looking to kill you. Dysmantle is a survival game, but not one where you ever have to worry about food or water. Thankfully you’ve got a crowbar, a tireless arm, and the will to do whatever it takes to survive. Stuck on an island overrun by the undead, you’re the only human left alive. The world of Dysmantle is in pretty bad shape. Don’t be afraid to experiment with some patterns here too, especially if you feel like they resonate with you style wise, a good striped tee for example can bring some great contrast and interest to a look. This doesn’t translate to t-shirts made of wool, but what it does mean is some heavier-weight cotton tees in some muted autumnal tones that you can wear underneath your overshirt or raincoat as the temperatures continue to dip. A built-in navigation system-which adds hundreds to the cost of the stereo-doesn’t rely on reception because it has all of the mapping and points-of-interest data stored in the stereo’s memory. That gives you great traffic info, but it uses your phone’s data and battery, ties up the phone’s screen, and can become a problem if you lose cell coverage. If you skip it, you will still be able to use your phone’s apps, like Google Maps, Apple Maps, or Waze, for navigation (through Apple CarPlay or Android Auto). Built-in navigation system: Not everyone needs a built-in navigation system, but deciding whether to get one is a big part of this purchase.Check with an installer or the stereo manufacturer to find out what’s best for your specific vehicle. If your car has other functions-such as climate controls or vehicle settings-integrated into the infotainment system, you can also usually get a wiring harness that enables those features as well. Swapping out the factory stereo risks losing this convenience, but the better models, including most of the ones we tested, can keep it as long as you connect a special wiring harness such as the iDatalink Maestro. Compatibility with steering-wheel controls: Most new vehicles have steering-wheel controls that work with the factory audio system to adjust the volume, change a channel, or do other basic functions. It sounds silly, but having the stereo match the interior lighting makes it feel much more integrated.” Peter Logan, an audio specialist at Crutchfield, told us, “A lot of our customers really want their aftermarket head unit to have adjustable screen colors. This lets you reflect the mood you want, adjust between modes you can see better in daylight or at night, or simply provide some variation in how the stereo looks. Adjustable color themes: It’s purely a cosmetic feature, but we prefer the option to change the color theme of the stereo’s display and buttons to better coordinate with a car’s own interior lighting. To zoom in or out on a map, you just have to use the + and ‒ buttons on the screen. The resistive displays used on most replacement stereos recognize only one touch point at a time, but we’ve found that they’re fine for most uses, such as tapping on-screen buttons and swiping menus. But those are typically available only on higher-priced stereos. Touchscreen: We preferred a capacitive touchscreen (similar to the one on your smartphone), which allows multitouch gestures that can be particularly handy for pinching to zoom on navigation maps.A few models-including three of the stereos we tested-have a knob, which makes volume adjustments much easier, although the compromise can be a slightly smaller display. The best have a nice tactile feel, which makes them easier to identify by touch. Where we saw the most difference was in the stereos’ physical buttons, which are located on the faceplate around the screen. Most stereos have similar screens: a 6.4- to 7-inch display that’s clear, sharp, and responsive. Easy-to-use interface: Intuitive controls, large on-screen buttons, and easy-to-read fonts make it easy to get to what you want quickly, minimizing distractions.(CarPlay and Android Auto can’t run off of Bluetooth, according to Pioneer’s Ted Cardenas, because each require too much data.) So, wireless stereos have a built-in Wi-Fi network that you connect your phone to, and once the two are paired, the phone automatically drops any other Wi-Fi network it’s connected to in favor of the stereo’s. Relatively few stereos offer wireless connections to CarPlay or Android Auto, but it’s the area where we’ve seen the most innovation in the last year. Wireless connectivity: We could seamlessly link to all of the stereos we tested with a USB cord, but being able to connect wirelessly to the CarPlay and Android Auto apps is a huge convenience. Use Director’s Viewīy now, you must already know that the Samsung Galaxy S21’s camera comes with plenty of video shooting modes, and the Director’s view is one of them. However, make sure that the Swipe Down function is set to GIF in settings. The phone will start snapping images to make a GIF right away. Once you see a funny situation unfolding, take your phone and swipe down on the Shutter button, and that’s it. Create Funny GIFsĪnother funny thing about the Galaxy S21 Camera is that you can create funny GIFs right from your own camera. Do note to reverse this setting when capturing normal day-to-day photos since 108MP photos are massive in size, or else you will see your phone’s storage fill up in no time! 5. Simple, right?Īfter that, the phone will shoot all the photos in high-resolution. Head over to the camera app, tap on the Ratio icon at the top, and tap on 3:4 108MP. By default, all the phone photos are pixel binned, but you can enable the dedicated 108MP mode. Activate the 108MP ModeĪgain, if you have the Galaxy S21 Ultra like me, you can also shoot in 108MP. Next, tap on Settings > Advanced Recording Options, and toggle the switch next to HDR10+ videos.įor those uninitiated, HDR10+ allows the camera to capture an increased color range, thereby making your videos more dynamic. To enable HDR10+ on your camera, switch to the video mode, and then tap on Resolution. That Samsung Galaxy S21 and S21+ also bundles HDR10+ support, which is great for capturing photos and video playback. This way, your phone’s storage will stay free from unnecessary videos. For example, if you do not want filtered videos, you can keep them disabled. Now, all you need to do is tap on the shutter button, and you will see the magic come to life.Īt the same time, you can also choose the modes you want to be activated while capturing Single Takes. Next, drag the slider right.ĭo note that you can extend up to 15 seconds. To do so, tap on the timer icon in the lower-right corner. The best thing about the Single Take feature of the GalaxyS21 is that you can fine-tune the recording time.įor instance, if you want the recording mode to get wrapped in 5 seconds, that is totally doable. Single Take is one of the most interesting features on Samsung Galaxy smartphones and is gold for people like me who love capturing photos. Áfter that, the phone will save your photos and videos in more efficient formats without compromising their clarity and details. Once in, toggle the switch next to High-efficiency videos, and that’s about it. Similarly, head over to the video mode and select Advanced Recording Options. To make this change, head over to Settings, select Format and Advanced Options from the menu, and toggle the switch for HEIF pictures. These file formats allow your phone to capture photos and videos that are considerably smaller than conventional JPG photos. If you want to save on space, it makes only sense to save the photos in the HEIF (High-Efficiency Image File) formats and videos in the HEVC format. And hence, it makes sense to use this storage efficiently and cleverly. Without a doubt, the Galaxy S21 and the Galaxy S21 come with ample internal storage. So, without further ado, let’s get started.Ĭheck out the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra if you haven’t already. Absorbing death after crushing death until you finally crystallise a two- or three-minute nugget of inspired play. That feeling when you enter a new boss room and realise you may be there for the next hour or so. Once you know what’s coming in Eldest Souls, nothing is more fatal than indulging your own desperation, squeezing in an extra hit when there isn’t time, especially when you’re wounded and trying to heal by going on the offensive. Fallen Flag are unashamed disciples of Dark Souls, and where it really shows is how these mechanics emphasise the real secret to getting through From’s series – patience. It’s all about finding the moment, the gap, to make room for the charge, rolling through your foe’s response before delivering a few swipes and a bloodburst while there’s time. You can also break out a hefty ‘bloodburst’ blow, with the caveat that it ends bloodthirst immediately. Now for a short window you’re a little stronger and more nimble, plus your strikes drain life, refilling damage you’ve taken. Regular sword slashes are ineffectual, so you need to hold the attack button for a second, triggering a running slice that shifts you into ‘bloodthirst’ mode if it connects. The key to its success is in a satisfying mini-loop of charge, dodge, unleash. For all the torment, I’d been enjoying my attempts to wrestle with the foibles of Eldest Souls’ combat. Relief or elation? I threw a fist in the air, which indicates the latter. Nailing the performance was another thing entirely.īut the test of a game like this comes once you win, in how you feel in the afterglow. Learning its vulnerabilities, along with the timings and tells of its assaults, down to its last desperate gambit, took much of that time. Eos has multiple phases, blanching the ground with flame and washing you aside with waves, then splitting in half to double its points of attack. My nemesis at this stage was Eos, an elemental orb of water and fire gliding around a cramped arena, which scorched and battered me for some 90 minutes, killing me 30 times. A combination of things began to seem unreasonable – plodding movement speed, a dodge move restricted by a stingy stamina quota and a painful recharge rate, plus the relentless brutality of the gods themselves. But by the fourth I was questioning whether developer Fallen Flag had provided a protagonist who was really up to the job. Initially it doesn’t sound too daunting, with just nine imprisoned elder beings to take down in its crumbling Citadel, the first of which is part-tutorial.
